The S.E.E. Center’s mission is to engage in prevention and intervention efforts to increase awareness, educate students and positively impact our university environment.
Safety Environment and Education Center (S.E.E. Center) is a unit in the Division of Student Life dedicated to the holistic development and support of our students. The unit is designed to create connections which draw from across the Division of Student Life, the University and the greater Knoxville community. The goal of the unit is to facilitate supports, mobilize access and create opportunities for education. The S.E.E. Center was originally developed as a unique approach to campus alcohol and substance abuse prevention efforts. The S.E.E. Center has been reconstituted to serve as an umbrella that encompasses the S.E.E. Center’s original mission and broadened to include supports addressing distressed students, sexual assault, personal safety, health education and our Veteran student population. The S.E.E. Center serves as the “clearing house” for prevention, a center for intervention coordination and a resource “hub” for students.
The staff of the Safety, Environment and Education Center is dedicated to a community model that is embodied in the “VOLS HELP VOLS” commitment. The S.E.E. Center was originally developed as a unique approach to campus alcohol and substance abuse prevention efforts, but has grown to incorporate the Distressed Student Protocol, Case Management, Threat Assessment Task Force, and the Task Force in Support of Student Veterans. The S.E.E. Center coordinates campus wide health and wellness education efforts, personal safety initiatives, sexual assault response in the Division of Student Life, as well as alcohol and substance abuse prevention and intervention.
The S.E.E. Center seeks to engage students by removing barriers and connecting them with resources needed to achieve personal success. Through prevention efforts that inform, increase awareness and educate, the services provided by the S.E.E. Center seek to alter and impact the university environment through evidence-based social norm approaches and environmental management. The S.E.E. Center values faculty, staff, student and community partners who promote relationships through the institutionalization of supports and protocol.
